Traveling. It’s just not the same since we’ve had a baby.
It seems like there is so much more planning involved.
There are endless baby contraptions that have to be added to the mix. Nap times almost take mathematical equations to figure out.
So when it comes to fitness, sometimes that is the last thing on my mind.
Fortunately, I used to travel a ton for work and developed some simple workout habits that I have carried over into my mom life. They have really helped me stay fit when on the road. Enjoy!
Here are a couple of options when your normal workout routine seems impossible.
1. Hit the Stairs of the Hotel for 15 Minutes.
This is perfect when the gym is full or non-existent. Hotels typically have so many flights of stairs that I would feel like I got a great workout after about three times up and down all the flights.
So ask your hubby or grandma to watch that sweet baby while you get your sweat on.
2. Take the Little One with you to the Hotel Gym.
I typically go during off hours so we don’t bother anyone. This also typically helps us not get kicked out when there are age restrictions (wink). Just push in your stroller and make it interactive with your little one.
Count out loud or use them as your weight.
3. Do a Workout Video in Your Room.
On a recent trip to Florida my husband and I worked out in the bathroom while our baby napped. We did HIIT daily challenges that were about 10 minutes long. I felt great knowing that I was still committed to working out even if it was on the bathroom floor.
So pull up a youtube video or start a daily challenge and stay committed to being fit even if your surroundings aren’t ideal.
4. Take a Long Walk or Run.
On family vacations I love catching up with family members by taking off in the morning for a long jog or speed walk.
It is so fun seeing a new city and getting to talk while doing so.
Some mornings I take the stroller and other mornings I leave our sweet girl with my husband or other family member. So instead of sitting inside and catching up get out and enjoy some fresh air.
5. Squat Over the Pot
This is by far my favorite and fastest. The bathrooms you run in to while on the road are often pretty gross. So why not get some exercise while you are avoiding nasty germs? And don’t only squat while you’re at the dirty gas station toilet, squat every time you use the pot on your trip.
I am horrible at squatting. As a runner I didn’t realize I could be so weak – turns out I am. I can actually feel my legs shake and ache after I’m done. But the more I do it, the stronger and more toned I’ve become. You can do the same, and you can start while on vacation.
So you see, maintaining a healthy lifestyle does not have to go out the window when on vacation. It can be pretty simple. Try to not go overboard so you still feel like you are on vacation.
Does anyone else have simple ways to stay fit while traveling?
